Comparison of multilabel classification models to forecast project dispute resolutions
نویسنده
چکیده
Early forecasting of project dispute resolutions (PDRs) provides decision-support information for resolving potential procurement problems before a dispute occurs. This study compares the performances of classification and ensemble models for predicting dispute handling methods in public–private partnership (PPP) projects. Model analyses use machine learners (i.e., Support Vector Machines (SVMs), Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), and Tree-augmented Naïve (TAN) Bayesian), classification and regression-based techniques (i.e., Classification and Regression Tree (CART), Quick, Unbiased and Efficient Statistical Tree (QUEST), Exhaustive Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detection (Exhaustive CHAID), and C5.0), and combinations of these techniques that performed best for a set of PPP data. Analytical results exhibit that the combined technique of QUEST + CHAID + C5.0 has the best classification accuracy at 84.65% in predicting dispute resolution outcomes (i.e., mediation, arbitration, litigation, negotiation, administrative appeals or no dispute occurred). Moreover, as the dispute category and phase in which the dispute occurs are known during project execution, the best classification model is the CART model, with an accuracy of 69.05%. This study demonstrates effective classification application for early PDR prediction related to public infrastructure projects. 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Comparing multilabel classification methods for provisional biopharmaceutics class prediction.
The biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS) is now well established and utilized for the development and biowaivers of immediate oral dosage forms. The prediction of BCS class can be carried out using multilabel classification. Unlike single label classification, multilabel classification methods predict more than one class label at the same time. This paper compares two multilabel method...
متن کاملThe Stock Returns Volatility based on the GARCH (1,1) Model: The Superiority of the Truncated Standard Normal Distribution in Forecasting Volatility
I n this paper, we specify that the GARCH(1,1) model has strong forecasting volatility and its usage under the truncated standard normal distribution (TSND) is more suitable than when it is under the normal and student-t distributions. On the contrary, no comparison was tried between the forecasting performance of volatility of the daily return series using the multi-step ahead forec...
متن کاملComparison of Kullback-Leibler, Hellinger and LINEX with Quadratic Loss Function in Bayesian Dynamic Linear Models: Forecasting of Real Price of Oil
In this paper we intend to examine the application of Kullback-Leibler, Hellinger and LINEX loss function in Dynamic Linear Model using the real price of oil for 106 years of data from 1913 to 2018 concerning the asymmetric problem in filtering and forecasting. We use DLM form of the basic Hoteling Model under Quadratic loss function, Kullback-Leibler, Hellinger and LINEX trying to address the ...
متن کاملForecasting Gold Price using Data Mining Techniques by Considering New Factors
Gold price forecast is of great importance. Many models were presented by researchers to forecast gold price. It seems that although different models could forecast gold price under different conditions, the new factors affecting gold price forecast have a significant importance and effect on the increase of forecast accuracy. In this paper, different factors were studied in comparison to the p...
متن کاملImproving classification accuracy of project dispute resolution using hybrid artificial intelligence and support vector machine models
Support vector machines (SVMs) have been applied successfully to construction knowledge domains. However, SVMs, as a baseline model, still have a potential improvement space by integrating hybrid intelligence. This work compares the performance of various classification models using the combination of fuzzy logic, a fast and messy genetic algorithm, and SVMs. A set of public–private partnership...
